Abbey Markham

I have become 10 times the actress I was when I started doing Carla’s workshop. The learning environment was nurturing and encouraging which really helped with embodying what I was being taught. One thing that I really loved about Carla’s teaching was that she is totally honest, she tells you what you need to hear to improve. Carla is very easy to understand as well as engaging. I felt that she really tried and succeeded to make sure that everybody in the class was given equal attention and got the chance to preform and receive feedback. I loved that she videotaped us. I know it really helped me get used to being in front of a camera and I felt prepared for auditions where they have taped me.

The most profound thing that Carla taught me was that you should never feel comfortable. I find that this statement is absolutely true because that discomfort motivates me to continue growing as both a person and actor. She taught me that the difference between good actors and great actors is that great actors don’t only show an emotion well, they have layers of emotions that come through and touch people’s hearts. Every script I’ve learned, and will learn I will apply what she has taught me, such as not indicating, and creating an inner monologue so that the emotional layers evolve. Carla has enriched my ways of acting. I only wish that the class had been longer so I could have learned more. I am definitely going to be in her next class.
